In 2005, she participated in Synchronicity Theatre’s SheWRITES national playwriting festival. Her musical “Love Jerry” was a finalist for the Alliance Theatre’s Kendeda Graduate Playwriting Competition that same year, and received its world premiere at Actor’s Express in 2006. Gogerty’s one-woman show “Hillary Clinton Got Me Pregnant” is currently running at 7 Stages as part of Synchronicity Theatre’s “Bold Voices” series.
Explain the premise of "Hillary Clinton Got Me Pregnant" in a nutshell.
It’s a semi-true story about two things: being a Democrat in the Bush years, and my personal narrative. It’s sort of my political and personal awakening.
You’re obsessed with “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” and even recorded your own tribute album. What’s that about?
I think the show is brilliant. It has a real creative character. Prior to Buffy, there wasn't a butt-kicking woman on TV, unless she was mentally deranged. Buffy is funny, smart, cute, sexy, and also the most bad-ass vampire slayer in the world. Because of that, Angelina Jolie owes her career to this show.
What other projects are you working on?
I'm teaching in Iowa, taking care of my baby and working on some of my productions. My musical "Love Jerry" hits in Philly in June.
Have you ever met Hillary Clinton?
Once, at a book signing. I actually start out the show with that story.
What would you say to her if you could sit down and talk?
Oh gosh, I think I would be too tongue-tied to talk. I would probably say something really stupid. [She laughs.]—Meghan Kotowski
